What can numerology tell us about good luck verses bad luck?

Thirteen is considered to be a “bad luck” number. This belief is so strong that recent history shows people going out of their way to avoid it. Some buildings refuse to put a thirteenth floor on their elevators, going from 12 straight to 14.

There is no pinpoint reason why 13 is considered unlucky — but plenty of theories. The oldest theory traces back to Norse mythology. When the gods held a banquet in Valhalla, Loki was the thirteenth guest to arrive. He was not invited, as the banquet was supposed to be for only twelve guests. Loki ended up tricking one god into killing another god, Baldr.

The number also comes up in the Bible, at the last supper, when Jesus feasts with his twelve disciples. The thirteenth guest, also uninvited, was Judas. And Judas ended up betraying Jesus, leading to him be crucified. Therefore, thirteen became associated with betrayal and misfortune.

Another reason why there is distaste for this number may be because it comes directly after twelve, which is seen as a perfect and sacred number. The number is used repeatedly in the Bible with positive connotations, such as Jesus having twelve disciples. In astrology, there are twelve zodiac signs. And the calendar has twelve months in a year — tracing back to the ancient Sumerians and Babylonians — and constructed by Julius Caesar in 45 BC.

One more theory why thirteen is bad luck, actually, may be because the two digits add up to four. (1 + 3 = 4) And four might be an even worse number than thirteen! Specifically in Chinese culture, the number four is highly feared.

In numerology, all digits are added together until it reaches a single digit. What can numerology tell us about the number four? In numerology, there’s no such thing as “good” or “bad” numbers.

Four represents stability, completeness, and steadiness. That can be good or bad, depending on your viewpoint. If you are trying to evoke change, then it can be very bad. Four is a very stubborn number — it refuses to budge. The year 2020 adds up to the number four — a very bad year!

Four can be a negative number when you are seeking change. If you’re having bad luck, the number four will keep that bad luck going. So, seeking good luck, you would want to stay away from this number.

In contrast, the number seven is seen as good luck. The Bible says that God created the world in six days and rested on the seventh. Christianity, Judaism, and Islam have traditions and beliefs related to the number seven. And in Hinduism, there are seven chakras.

Our calendar uses seven days in a week. The rainbow has seven colors. The moon takes approximately seven days to change phases. Our planet has seven seas and seven continents.

In numerology, the number seven is actually quite a lonely number. The number symbolizes introspection, introversion, and looking within. This makes it a highly spiritual number because it represents turning away from the outside world in order to focus on one’s inner world. This number represents a yogi, a sage, a nun, or a monk.

Superstition is tied to spirituality. It’s associated with forces that cannot be explained, beyond what meets the eye. And so, with seven being a highly spiritual number, it makes sense that it’s often seen as lucky.

The fear of the number “666” comes directly from The Bible, in which the Book of Revelations declares this the devil’s number. There are some claims that the original translation is actually “616,” in which these numbers would add up to thirteen.

In numerology, three repeating numbers is called an “angel number,” which brings good luck and blessings. The number six itself symbolizes kindness, charity, and good deeds. It’s a highly caring and compassionate number.

Adding up the digits, 6 + 6 + 6 = 18. Breaking that down further, 1 + 8 = 9. So, it leaves us with the number nine. In numerology, nine represents endings. It’s human nature to be afraid of endings – because that indicates a new beginning coming, which brings on the unknown. And the unknown is scary. So in that sense, it could be seen as a scary number.

To see this number, actually brings good fortune. It means that the angels can see your kindness. You may even be overextending yourself, and the angels are reminding you to focus on self-care and self-love.
