Numerology is the study of numbers containing mystical components. It can tell us about our present and our future.
In numerology, multiple digits are added together until they add up to a single digit. And so, for the year 2026, take 2 + 0 + 2 + 6. This number adds up to 10; and then 1 + 0 = 1, leaving us with the single digit of 1.
I’m going to go over what this means for the entire collective. I will also make some comparisons to last year, which was the year of “9” (2+0+2+5=9). And we will also look back on previous years in which it was the year of “1.”
Lastly, I will go over how 2026 will affect you on a more personal level. I will explain how to determine your personal year number, which is different for everyone, and can bring more specific predictions.
New Beginnings
We just finished up the year of 9, and now it’s time to begin a brand new cycle, starting over again at 1. New beginnings are extremely positive because this allows us to let go of the past, drop grudges, forgive and forget, and embrace moving forward. This could be a year of taking a huge leap forward — no longer feeling stuck or held back.
The downside to new beginnings is that it comes with the unknown. And the unknown can feel scary. This could leave you feeling a bit out of place. But the energy of 1 is very confident. You will find it more natural to try things you’ve never done before.
Of course, you can make the choice to be resistant to change. In 2026, the energy is moving ahead — and you can either go along with it or get lost behind. If you choose to enter this new year with resentment, fear, and stubbornness, then you will end up getting burned. It’s incredibly important to come into the year with an open mind and a clear head.
Leadership
Can each and every one of us become leaders in 2026? Don’t you need followers in order to be a leader? The answer is yes, we can all be leaders at once — because we can all lead in different ways. We can all focus on our own strengths and carve our paths. We can inspire others, while also feeling inspired by others.
This is an excellent year for taking control and becoming your own boss. You may want to start your own business. You may want to write your own rulebook. You may want to take over an organization. When you choose the role of leadership in 2026, luck is on your side!
Individuality
In 2026, we will all be very focused on our own identity. It will be especially important for all of us to have our own choices. Individuality brings the world a wider range of diversity, making it a more interesting and exciting place.
We will be feeling more determined to understand who we are. Honoring your own uniqueness should be a top priority. And when we have more self-awareness, it makes it easier to improve ourselves, realizing what we need to work on. Investing in some self-help books could really pay off.
2026 in Romance
This can be a favorable year for singles, as you are more likely to meet someone new who will play great significance in your life. It’s not guaranteed that you will meet your end-game, but you will very likely meet someone who shakes up your world — a past-life connection. So if you are single and have been looking to meet someone new, this could be your year.
For longterm couples, 2026 will bring a new chapter in your relationship — a refresh. There could be a significant change in your partnership — and it’s important that you embrace it rather than resist. You can really deepen your bond with one another by trying new things, maybe starting up a new tradition, or signing up for a class together.
Keeping your sense of individuality and uniqueness will be important in romance. Singles, while you are highly likely to meet someone special this year, you could also find that you are very content being single. In a new relationship, you’ll want to take things slowly and keep a healthy distance. For couples, be sure to set aside some “me-time” in which you can decompress on your own. Avoid clinginess and let your partner have some space when needed.
2026 in Career
In career, this is a favorable year for starting a new job, seeking a promotion, or entering a new career path. Take advantage of this year for making positive changes at work. Move into leadership roles, get more involved, and share your ideas with management. Do whatever is necessary to avoid feeling “stuck” in your career.
This is a lucky year for business owners and entrepreneurs. You can achieve more fulfillment at work by having more personal power in your workplace. Staying at a job in which management does not allow you to feel like a leader, or they are micro-managing, is going to bring so much misery. Do not sacrifice your identity for a company.
Last year was the year of “9”
Last year, 2025, was the year of 9 (2+0+2+5=9). We cannot have new beginnings without endings, and 2025 was a year of endings. There were a lot of people, places, and situations which we needed to let go of. Hopefully, many of us were able to find some sense of closure. This year may have taught you how to find peace and acceptance.
The number 9 brings a lot of heavy energy. It also puts more focus on the world as a whole. Many of us were more concerned with the entire collective of humanity, rather than our own, personal needs. That focus is going to shift in 2026, in which we move away from big-picture thinking, and put more attention on our own desires.
The prior years of “1”
The last time we experienced the year of 1 was in 2017 (2+0+1+7=1). Think about what was going on in your life at that time. Were there any big changes or new beginnings?
For myself, 2017 was the year that I bought my first deck of tarot cards and began seriously studying and practicing. It was also the year that I got my first full-time job out of college, and officially moved out of my parent’s house and into my new apartment.
Whatever patterns you went through in 2017 are likely to pop up again in the year 2026. In fact, depending on how old you are, you can go back several cycles in which the year was “1,” and look for recurring themes.
Years of 1:
- 2026
- 2017
- 2008
- 1999
- 1990
- 1981
- To keep going backwards, subtract by 9 — double check yourself by adding all digits of the year together until you reach a single digit, adding up to 1.
You can also look at these years from a wide-scale perspective. In the United States, the year 2017 sparked a movement in which women became brave enough to speak out on SA — notably against men who held very powerful positions in Hollywood.
Allegations against Billy Cosby and Harvey Weinstein (which had been secretly known for many years prior) were finally coming out into the public and being taken seriously for the first time. These victims felt confident enough to speak their truth in a place where they had so much to lose. The world was ready to see change — powerful men no longer getting away with their abuse.
Going back further to the year 2008, another year of 1, the world was also very hungry for change. The United States elected Barack Obama, the first African American president. Obama lead his entire campaign on the concept of “change” and how necessary it was for the country at this moment in time.
2008 was also a year of the great recession and economic crisis. This crisis can actually be traced back to the year 1999 (another year of “1”), in which the Depression-era Glass-Steagall Act was partially repealed. From 1999 through 2007, the crisis gradually built up until it was officially declared a recession in December 2007, the year of 9. And so, the great US recession was built through an entire numerology cycle from 1999–2007. This is an example of how the year of 1 is a seed, growing and growing, until it bursts in the year of 9.
Your personal year number
While the entire world will be affected by the energy of “1” in the year 2026, you also have a personal year number which says more about the details of your life as an individual.
To find your personal year number, take your birth month and birth day, and add that together with the year.
Example:
I was born on November 14th = 11/14.
1 + 1 + 1 + 4 = 7
Now take that number, and add “1” (because 2026 = 1.)
7 + 1 = 8
Therefore, my personal year number is 8.
Here is a quick description of what your personal year means for you:
- 1: Your personal year matches the collective year, bringing more emphasis on the collective energy — you will feel more in tune with the universe. This year is especially important for making changes, being brave, trying new things, honoring your uniqueness, and taking on leadership roles.
- 2: There is a focus on your relationships. Indication of a strong romantic partnership. Your lesson will be balancing your own needs with the needs of others. Find ways to be giving without being self-sacrificing.
- 3: There will be a need to express yourself. You may want to focus on writing, public speaking, or sharing your artwork. You’ll be having a lot of creative ideas — which can help you gain more authority and leadership in both your home and your career.
- 4: Change may feel a little more difficult for you, although it is still necessary — so move slowly. Do not rush into anything new, rather, simply dip your toes. Favorable year for moving or making big changes to your home.
- 5: For you, change will come very easily, and it’s going to be extra necessary. It may be more of a playful and lighthearted year. Attention is drawn to creativity and imagination. You’ll feel more connected to any kids in your life.
- 6: You will be feeling more charitable this year. It’s highly recommended that you get involved with a new volunteer service or organization — perhaps even start one yourself. You should take on a leadership role in some type of charity service — this will bring deep fulfillment.
- 7: Doing things on your own, especially when it comes to trying new things, is important. You will be feeling more introverted and independent. This is your year for great self-awareness, self-exploration, and deep healing.
- 8: This is going to be an extraordinarily intense year for you. You are highly likely to step into a management or leadership position at work, or you can make strides in your own, independent business. You’ll want to brainstorm new ways to make extra money.
- 9: It will be a year of both beginnings and endings. It’s like this in-between phase in which you are starting over, yet still seeking closure from your past. There will be focus on your spirituality, life purpose, and destiny.
I hope that 2026 will be a fantastic year for you!
