Product Review: Kelp Jerky (akua)

I tried kelp jerky for the first time — this is a vegan jerky that is made with kelp and shiitake mushrooms. The flavor I tried was “Rosemary & Maple BBQ”.

I’m always pushing myself to try new foods and snacks, as someone who grew up a picky eater. My mom always said that tastebuds change as you age, and it’s odd to say that it’s true. Kelp jerky seemed kind of weird to me, but I thought… what the heck!

The serving size is one bag, which comes out to 160 calories with 10g of fiber and 10g of protein. Here’s what a piece looks like…

I gotta say — it tastes really good! It actually tastes just like BBQ chips with a sweet & sour flavoring. The texture is similar to candy, like gummy bears or fruit rollup. I cannot compare it to meat jerky because I’m vegetarian!

It leaves me feeling very full which is fantastic! Can’t wait to try the other flavors!
