On September 1st, 2024, Pluto entered Capricorn for the last time. Pluto has been gradually transiting from Capricorn to Aquarius, but due to retrogrades, it’s gone back and forth a few times. On November 19, 2024, Pluto will leave Capricorn for the very last time, and we will never again see this position in our lifetime. It’ll be about another 240 years before Pluto is back in Capricorn.

Pluto spends about 10–20 years in each zodiac sign. That’s because it’s the furthest planet from us with the longest orbit. Most of our planets transit every few weeks or few months. Pluto, along with Uranus and Neptune, are the outer planets that define an entire generation, rather than a single person. Your Pluto sign says more about the generation you were born into, rather than any specific personal traits.

Pluto in Capricorn has made up what we call “Gen Alpha.” These make up a majority of the kids born from 2008 until about 2023–2024. This has also defined an entire era in time in which the world was heavily influenced by Capricorn traits.

The Generations (and Eras) of Pluto

What Will Pluto In Aquarius Bring?

For this article, we are going to look at the past. That’s because you need to understand what’s behind in order to fully move forward. And from September through November, Pluto is in Capricorn for the very last time. This new era will last us until the year 2044.

Why did Pluto in Capricorn feel so negative?

I want to clarify and say that Capricorn is not a negative sign itself. In my article on describing what Pluto in Aquarius would bring, I mentioned that the next era will be more positive than the last. And that’s not because Capricorn is negative — it’s because Capricorn and Pluto don’t really get along.

Capricorn gets along well with its ruling planet, Saturn. So when Saturn is in the sign of Capricorn, this is a very fortunate and harmonious placement. But Capricorn and Pluto do not mix very well.

Capricorn is the zodiac sign associated with hard work, slow and steadiness, dependability and predictability, and traditional ways of living. This contrasts with Pluto, which symbolizes change, destruction, power, intensity, and the unexpected. When Capricorn meets Pluto, we see resistance to change, feelings of insecurity, and disruption of routine.

Capricorn halted the technological boom

The past century has brought the world a technological boom greater than any other point in history. Every decade came with a completely new way of living, most notably with the invention and eventual widespread use of the internet.

In the prior era, Pluto in Sagittarius, modern society transformed from dial-up computers to touchscreen Smartphones. But through Pluto in Capricorn, there have been no significant upgrades to Smartphones — other than more common and widespread use, along with the invention of tablets which are essentially just touchscreen smartphones on a wider scale.

We saw the steadiness of technology. We saw smartphones become more common and accessible, and eventually necessary for everyday functioning. We saw the invention of the iPad and tablets, which again, is simply a touchscreen smartphone with bigger screens. We truly did not see any major breakthroughs in technology.

From 2008 to 2024, modern society became more resistant to new technological breakthroughs. Instead, we became more focused on these advances becoming more widespread and accessible. This is not necessarily a bad thing, though — we needed to an era of “adjustment” to catch up with the past hundred years of intense, fast-paced change.

We saw a revival of “the old ways”

I see this aspect as very positive. After decades of romanticizing urban living, we saw a lot of people moving back to more rural areas, doing farming and gardening, growing their own food, and living the way that their grandparents or great-grandparents used to live. More people started raising chickens, learning to cook from scratch, becoming more self-sustainable, and so forth.

Vintage clothing, thrift shopping, and second-hand selling became more trendy. Women’s clothing style embraced long dresses and the types of things that your grandma used to wear. High-waisted bathing suits (again, just like your grandma’s!) became all the rage.

Neo-paganism, a religion that reconstructs ancient beliefs and practices, became more widespread. Yoga, an ancient practice from India, became super mainstream in the western world. And in the media, we saw a lot of same stories being told over and over — with book retellings, film reenactments, and cover songs being popular.

More rules and restrictions took place

We saw the modern world becoming a stricter place, as Capricorn is all about following the rules and punishing those who don’t. This brought “cancel culture” in which many celebrities had their careers ruined due to controversy.

Especially on a wide scale level, authorities gained a lot of power and used this to strongly enforce discipline. Children, especially, had a lot of their rights taken away and were no longer able to do the things that kids of previous generations have always done.

Pluto is all about power and Capricorn represents authority figures. So, one negative aspects about this era is that many bosses, leaders, etc., abused their power. Rulership favored those who were obsessed with control and domination. And that is really the reason why for Pluto in Capricorn, people will look back in history and see this as a very dangerous time.

And how could we forget the worst part of it all — the pandemic that began in 2020 and lasted for about two or three years (even in 2024, we are still not completely out of the clear.) This was Pluto at its strongest, in which many lives were taken, and many aspects of everyday living was stripped away from us.

During Pluto in Aquarius, there will be a heavy focus on individual rights and personal freedoms. There will be a need for community, but power will be taken away from leaders and become more equally distributed to the people.

Now, how did this era affect you personally? Take a look at your sun sign, moon sign, and rising sign.

Think back on the year 2008. Think about what you have gone through in the past fifteen years and what parts of you have completely changed.

Aries

This affected your area of career. You likely experienced a lot of chaos and transformation within your career path. You could have switched around a lot of different jobs or struggled to find direction. You may have faced many power struggles at work, in which bosses or coworkers really tested you. This taught you a lot about what you want to do for a living.

It could’ve really changed your reputation and outward persona, the image of yourself that you present to the world, and what people think of you. You may have experienced defamation, or people trying to tarnish your reputation. You really challenged people to not judge a book by its cover. The way people view you now is extremely different from fifteen years ago, like night and day!

Taurus

This period really challenged your perception of the world. Some of you could have even changed religions, or left a religion, or found a completely new spirituality and belief system. Before 2008, your life may have felt very sheltered, and there was so much that you didn’t know about the world. You’ve done enough exploring now to gain more awareness and realize just how close minded you used to be.

Some of you could’ve done a lot of traveling or moved somewhere new. Maybe you went across the country, or across the world. Or, you could’ve done a lot of schooling, studying, and higher education pursuit. You’ve come out of this era far less naive and innocent than you once were.

Gemini

Change, change, change became the only constant in your life. You saw a lot of people come and go during this period of your life, more than ever. You learned a lot about intimacy, going deep, and what it means to completely open up to someone.

You likely found more affinity towards the occult. This was an excellent time for shadow work because you were not too intimidated to ask yourself the deep questions. You really pushed your limits during this time and allowed yourself to be uncomfortable. This is what brought so much overall transformation in your life.

Cancer

This changed how you viewed relationships and romance. This could manifest in so many different ways. If you remained married or in a relationship through these years, you went through a lot of deaths and rebirths in your partnership, going through many tests and trials. Or, you could’ve been single for most or all of this period and met many people, going through many losses, or experiencing many breakups. Whatever your relationship status was, there was a lot of change and intensity in your romantic life.

You found yourself more drawn and attracted to those who were more mysterious and secretive. You could’ve attracted people who were very different than you, people you never expected to come into your life.

Leo

You faced many health trials during this time period. There could have been a lot of unexpected health issues popping up. Some of you chose to focus and prioritize your health, which completely transformed you. Some of you instead chose to ignore your health, and that really backfired for you. And then some of you did fight hard to take care of yourself but it still left you with many unexplained issues.

You also faced a lot of constant disruptions in your daily routines. You could’ve moved around to a lot of different jobs. There was more chaotic energy in your daily lives, reconstruction of habits and rituals. Some of you really struggled with addiction.

Virgo

This time period for you was some sort of creative crisis. It was an excellent time for shadow work and exploring your dark side through artwork and imagination. You could’ve gotten into some secretive or controversial hobbies and creative pursuits. This transformed your definition of pleasure — what brings you joy and how much you allow yourself to feel joy.

For parents, or those with kids in your life, this was a critical time in redefining what it means to connect with children. Parents went through some very rough lessons and learned them the hard way. Everything you assumed you knew about parenting was flipped upside down. And for others, this could’ve been a time in which you decide that you do not want to ever have kids, or you want to be a very different type of parent than you’d previously planned to be.

Libra

During this period, a lot of transformation took place in your area of home and family. You could’ve moved around a lot or completely changed homes, maybe even did a lot of work into your current home. You could’ve gone through some intense changes with family members. Perhaps you became much closer to a parent or sibling or relative, or perhaps there was a family member who you were forced to cut ties with.

This also really impacted your belief system and sense of spirituality. This could be changing religions or abandoning religion completely. You truly questioned the meaning of life. Overall, most of the changes you have been going through have been internal and secretive.

Scorpio

Your style of communication has completely changed in these past fifteen years. You were put in difficult situations that forced you to use your voice and make people understand you more clearly. Many misunderstandings hit you, but you used this to evolve how you communicate and express yourself to the world.

You also learned a lot of skills and pursued many hobbies in a short period of time. Essentially, you became the renaissance man, learning a little bit of everything. Last, you may have experienced deep changes in your relationships with siblings, peers, and neighbors.

Sagittarius

Your money, finances, and possessions went through some major shifting. This could go in many different directions — some of you could’ve accumulated a lot of wealth and belongings in this period of time — others could’ve lost a lot of money, had to sell your things, and were forced to downsize. Some of you could’ve made a conscious decision to become more minimalist.

Your concept of spending has really changed. Hopefully in this period, you were able to cut back on waste, care for your environment, and find more sustainable ways of living. You could’ve made a major purchase during this time — like a house or a new car. There were periods when you urged to set everything you own on fire and completely start over!

Capricorn

Capricorn, you have really gone through it. Every aspect of your life has completely changed since 2008. But what’s changed the most is your sense of identity and life purpose. People you know back then will see you today and call you unrecognizable. Maybe you used to live life super cautiously and know you’ve become rebellious, or maybe you used to be a party animal and know you’ve turned into a hermit. Whatever it is, you’re a totally new archetype.

Your appearance has changed a lot too. This could be anything from a new haircut to a new wardrobe. Chances are likely that your appearance became a lot “edgier” than normal. Maybe you got some tattoos and piercings, or maybe you became more daring in your outfit or makeup choices.

Aquarius

This hit a very dark and private area of your life. There were a lot of changes that you felt like you couldn’t talk about and share with others. You went through so much grieving in this time. So many people came into your life and then left unexpectedly. There were so many goodbyes that came with absolutely no warning, no time to fully process your grief.

You had some very powerful dreams, maybe nightmares. Unfortunately, you were prone to spiritual attack. Hopefully, you used this time to strengthen your spiritual defenses, because it seriously tested you. You faced a lot of shame over your shadow self and suppressed desires.

Pisces

During this period, there was deep change in your friendship circle. Most of you have completely different friends than you did before 2008. What you seek in a friend is much different than before. You certainly experienced a lot of backstabbing, betrayal, and sudden loss, when it came to friendship.

Another thing that really changed was your sense of the future. There were so many plans ahead that got completely smashed. You had very different dreams for yourself back then. Your sense of faith and optimism was absolutely tested. This period taught you to believe in the unknown — because you’ve learned that “unknown” is the only thing you can truly count on.
