Spring is here!
The last time I made a Spring Playlist (SIDE A) was all the way back in the year 2020. I posted this right before quarantine, which is a little unsettling to think back on.
Now, it’s time for a new spring playlist. Spring is a transitionary season, just like autumn – except instead of going from light to dark, we’re moving from dark to light. Winter is closing and we’re coming out of hibernation. Although modern society doesn’t allow us to fully hibernate during winter, there’s still a sense of slowing down and going within. Through the winter, we still have to go to work every day, keep up with chores, and leave the house to go out into the bitter cold. But we aren’t making as many plans, maybe going to bed a bit earlier, going out much less and finding more ways to stay in.
As spring comes, we’re looking forward to summer, but we aren’t quite there yet. Personally, I feel a bit strange every time I no longer have to wear a jacket or long sleeves, I no longer have to bundle up every time I step outside. Suddenly, I feel more exposed, and it takes some adjustment to get used to. Yet, it feels like a sweet relief from the harsh cold. Despite the raising temperature, spring is still full of crazy weather, like wild winds and heavy showers. Transitions are difficult – even when we’re moving from the dark into the light, from coldness to warmth.
Looking at astrology, spring begins with Aries season, moving into Taurus season, and then closing out with Gemini season. Aries season is all about making a change, trying new things, feeling young again, and taking a foolish leap of faith. In late April comes Taurus season, which embraces the senses – good food, cozy feelings, and bonding with loved ones. From late May to late June will be Gemini season, which makes us feel extra curious.

The playlist I have put together is a majority of folk and indie songs, but also a handful of pop songs, as well as a little bit of EDM. These are all of the songs that remind me of spring.
1. Spring – Ed Sheeran
“That’s why I’m holding out for spring, we can’t let winter win.”
This beautiful song is about how we all go through internal seasons. We go through hard times known as our personal winters, in which the world feels cold, harsh, and unforgiving. But these times don’t last. If you can hold on, spring will return, and you’ll find happiness again.
2. Bloom – The Paper Kites
“Can I be close to you?”
The flowers are blooming, and this incredibly sweet tune is about wanting to feel closer to those you love. So innocent and precious, like spring.
3. Scared To Start – Michael Marcagi
“Don’t you wait to try it. Are you scared to find it?”
It’s time to start over. Replace fear with curiosity.
4. rain – mxmtoon
“When I’m sitting in the sun, I think about the rain.”
Very calming and catchy, this is about struggling to live in the moment, getting distracted by the future or the past. It captures so many anxious feelings, yet it has such a soothing sound. I think that, ironically, there is peace in accepting anxiety.
5. Water the Flowers, Pray for a Garden – Valley
“I’ll water the flowers and pray for a garden cause honestly I’m just all out of options.”
We’re eager to make things happen but we only have so much control. All you can do is try your best and then trust the process.
6. The Bug Collector – Haley Heynderickx
“And there’s a praying mantis prancing on your bathtub; And you swear it’s a priest from a past life out to getcha”
I’m not sure why this song speaks to me so much, as someone who absolutely despises bugs. But this acoustic indie song is about finding bugs pop up in your home – much like what happens during spring. The lyrics are quite funny.
7. Where the Kids Are – Blondfire
“Light it up, just give it up, where the kids are running free tonight”
The youth of spring!
8. Crooked Tree – Molly Tuttle
“Oh, can’t you see a crooked tree won’t fit into the mill machine? They’re left to grow wild and free. Oh, I’d rather be a crooked tree”
This bluegrass song is about wanting to stand out and be an individual.
9. Hoping For Rain – Goss
“Things can get better, change with the weather, I’m hoping for rain.”
Slow and mellow, you really need to sit down and carefully listen to the lyrics. Sometimes, in order for things to get better, they need to first get a little worse. Change never comes easy – even the good kinds of change.
10. SPIDER WEB – Melanie Martinez
“I move like a moth or a butterfly craving a change in the wind.”
Spring isn’t just about bugs, it’s about getting back into the natural world.
11. The Bird Song – Noah Floersch, Em Beihold
“She was a bird, I was an arrow. Both of us sure we were sword and a sparrow”
The catchy and upbeat melody really feels like spring. The lyrics are about how some people are givers and some are takers, and these two types seem to always be attracted to one another.
12. April – Beach Bunny
“April showers, rain starts falling…”
Beach Bunny is an awesome indie band. And all of their songs feel warm, even with saddening lyrics.
13. Follow The Light – Armin van Buuren, Hardwell
“All the shadows that I follow in the night, Like a willow running wild in my mind”
Hardstyle EDM, moving out of the darkness and into the light.
14. Springtime Red Tulips – Bo Staloch
“Honey, you’re alright, breathe.”
Slowing it down, this acoustic song is comforting in the moments when it feels like you can’t breathe.
15. Dandelions – Ruth B.
“Wishing on dandelions all of the time, Praying to God that one day you’ll be mine”
Of course, springtime is full of flowers, and dandelions are my favorite!
16. Wildflowers – Ed Sheeran
“You were born to run and run, til you find your fire.”
And my other favorite flower, the wildflower.
17. Holy Dirt – Chathlam Rabbits
“Out of the water, I felt like I was reborn.”
This is another bluegrass song. It feels super nostalgic.
18. The Rain – Little Quirks
“Oh, I wanted to ask you all, “Why?” Why I long, why I long for the rain? Oh Lord, I wanna go out in your rain”
This song has a strong and powerful energy with impressive vocals!
19. YOUTH – Troye Sivan
“My youth is yours, trippin on skies, sippin waterfalls.”
Hopeful, energetic, and dreamy.
20. Come Out Of My Blues – Sierra Hull, Tim O’Brien
“I think I’m beginning to come out of my blues.”
A bluegrass and stripped down track, this is coming out of winter and embracing spring.
21. Start Right Now – Young Pines, Laney Jones
“Every day’s a brand new chance to start again.”
A very uplifting song, to the point of almost being cheesy, but I love this! All of your motivation!
22. Wild Ones – Jessie Murph, Jelly Roll
“I got a thing for the wild ones, they like me too.”
Spring fever is wild!
23. Forever Young – David Guetta, Alphaville, Ava Max
“Do you really want to live forever?”
This is an EDM remix of the classic song. This is sooo springtime to me.
24. Let The Light In – Lana Del Rey, Father John Misty
“Look at us, you and I back at it again.”
This 70s hippie vibe is nostalgic and heartwarming.
25. Young Again – Don Diablo, Sandro Cavazza
“Cause we’re never gonna be this young again.”
I truly love EDM songs with a great piano spotlight.
26. Greener Grass – Wood & Wire
“Just when you’re about the settle down, you head out for the next best thing.”
The grass is always greener on the other side.
27. Keep The Faith – Armin van Buuren, Bon Jovi
“Lord, we’ve gotta keep the faith.”
It’s an EDM remix of the classic song by Bon Jovi.
28. Real Love Baby – Father John Misty
“I’m a flower, you’re the bee.”
Another Father John Misty, coming in with that 70s hippie sound.
29. Save The World – Swedish House Mafia
“We’re on our way, united.”
This song reminds me of spring because it’s about having hope.
30. Gild the Lily – Billy Strings
“I’d sing along with the birds if I only knew the words.”
The birds and chirping and spring is in the air!
