Self-care Sunday ~ Social anxiety

Overcoming social anxiety

There are three basic aspects you can use as tools for overcoming your SA.

  1. Awareness — Everything in life begins with “awareness.” This is the soul aspect that requires deep introspection and self-observance. As simple as understanding how your SA affects you leads to instant improvement. This is actually the hardest step, and once you reach this, the rest is easy.
    1. Determine where you fall on the scale.
    2. Identify your triggers.
  2. Confidence — This is the mental aspect. Society tells you that confidence is all about appearance, the way you look and the materials you have. But actually, confidence is an inside-job that has everything to do with the way you think.
    1. Find the “human” in yourself
    2. Find the “human” in others.
  3. Action — On the physical aspect, taking action is the completion step of overcoming SA.
    1. The simplest step — just do it!

Thanks, these are some great tips. It’s also interesting that being “mean, rude, or sassy” can be a manifestation of social anxiety. Knowing that will help me think twice before jumping to the conclusion that someone is just obnoxious.

Yes! In some cases they might just be obnoxious haha but I definitely know cases when a person uses that as a defense mechanism for their social anxiety and can be due to paranoia of being judged or picked on. It doesn’t mean it’s excusable, but it can help you understand better.

True, it does not excuse the behavior. Still, I think that possibility would help me dampen my own anger so that I don’t just react to their jabs.
