10 Years of Lotus Laura: My Favorite Poems

I’m sharing my favorite poems that I’ve written on this blog. They are directly copied and pasted. Note that some of these poems come from my other blog (Lotus Poems.)

10) Illusions

I live in a state of confusion

well too aware of all the illusions

I don’t believe anything that I see

Am I reflecting you or are you reflecting me?

9) I’m not that crazy anymore

Chasing after you was like knocking on a brick wall
And expecting it to fall
Chasing after you was like going to a gun fight
Showing up with just a knife

Was I unsure of reality or too sure of myself?
Was I delusional or cocky, as you stood there with someone else?
Every day I told myself that you and I were making progress
Every way I read you wrong was truly making things a big mess

As you mouthed the words “I don’t like you”
as your eyes screamed “I want to fight you”
In my mind, you really loved me
Couldn’t bare my glare, couldn’t get enough me

Time is a teacher, time is a sage
Time is the gift that ended the plague
Time has me looking back on before
Thinking, “thank God I’m not that crazy anymore.”

8) Easy, simple, plain

Gazing upon the shore

sipping her tea

she dreams of what an easy life

could be.

Wants to be free,

fear is a heavy chain.

Nothing is ever

easy, simple, or plain.

7) Not afraid of the dark

I’m not afraid of the dark

I’m not afraid of the night

I’m more afraid of the day

Far more afraid of the light.

I’m scared of being wrong

Like I knew nothing all along

But even worse than that

I’m scared of being right.

6) The Camera

The camera is my best friend
and my worst enemy
It builds me up and tares me down
all at once.

The camera never lies
looking me dead in the eyes
without blinking or shying away
flash and exposure

nowhere to hide
waiting to capture my every move
I look back and try to match its bravery
try to intimidate what is intimidating me

it has no soul
yet here I am, showing mine
it has no feelings
yet here I am, posing mine.

I breathe into it
and open up completely.
The camera comes alive
when I feed it life.

5) Do you believe in ecstasy?

Tell me, do you believe in ecstasy?

For most people, it’s just a fantasy.

Will it ever find you, ever capture

your soul and hold you until you feel rapture?

Sliding down slopes of exhilaration

til every cell in your body is in exaltation

Going beyond happiness, beyond state of bliss

Paradise of pleasure and euphoric elation.

4) Fangs

Flashing his pearly whites
Beaming through the night
Sharp as a blade
It’s time to ice skate

Gliding through the dark
Now is when you make your mark
Fangs sink into the flesh
Of the vampire victim’s neck!

Sinking deeper
And breaking the barrier
Of the skin
Let it in

As she shrieks with pain
He’s hitting a vein
A sharp sting, a lasting burn
Quickly takes an unexpected turn

Morphing into pleasure
Amplify the pressure
Covering her face
Caught in his embrace

Her eyes turn scarlet red
Matching the color of all she bled
And now she will sing his song
As he disappears into the dawn

3) Graveyard Walk

Take a graveyard walk down memory lane
See all I had to lose, in order to ever gain
See the broken bones and the lifeless hearts
See the sacrifices made, in search of a new start

This tombstone here is so special to me
Lay down roses and imagine what could be
Lay down letters that will never be returned
Lay down sage, light a match and let it burn

The ghosts wander waiting and listening for prayers
Tell them all my secrets I am willing to share
Tell them scary stories about my own waking life
Tell them there is better reason to fear the day, than to fear the night.

2) Into the forest

Down the road, you walked away

There was nothing I could do to make you stay

Into the forest, blending into the trees

Long gone… vanished… or so it seems

I found you in music, found you in books

Found you in stories with clever hooks

Into the forest, I felt a cold breeze

Long gone… vanished… or so it seems

1) Noble

Noble is the knight in shining armor
Wearing his pride like a badge of honor
Horseback riding with his chest held high
Conquering the world because he’s blessed by the sky

Admirable is his character, so virtuously kept
Striving towards his destiny free of moral debt
Compassion is his compass; it always leads the way
Working tirelessly to make the right choices every single day

His fruits of labor and prized possessions
Are of great importance and fiercely protected
Always in control, he tames the wild horse
And never lets distractions throw him off course

The sacrifices made, his long list of good deeds
Will not go on wasted, will not be unseen
The heavens were watching when he thought he was alone
And someday he will righteously sit on the golden throne!

It’s my pleasure. I dabble a bit myself, so I know it’s easy to lose poems between the essays and drawings and bits and bobs.
