It makes me sad to say as someone who genuinely enjoys her music but the way that her team is selling so many variants of the same album, clearly as a way of bringing in more sales, is disheartening.

The Tortured Poets Department is continuing to be released on multiple variants as a way of bringing in more money and raising her stats. This strategy is not just about money, it’s also about breaking records in the music industry. This is their technique of keeping her new album on the top charts.

I say this as someone who truly believes that she is talented and a hard worker. But this sales technique is unfair and actually makes a mockery out of her career and abilities.

I’ve lost track of how many variants have been released so far. It started out as multiple vinyls with different color schemes and cover art — this is a common practice in today’s music industry. But then she started releasing variants in which it includes one bonus song, or one live recording. So fans are buying 10-15 copies of the same exact album, just so they can hear one bonus song.

Her team is also strategic in releasing variants when other successful pop stars debut their new albums. A new set of variants came out when Billie Eilish put out her newest record. And then another new set came out IN THE U.K. when pop star Charli XCX, a singer from the UK, released her album. She is purposely blocking other artists — other female artists to be exact.

I don’t want to put all of the blame on her, although I do think she has almost full control of her career at this point, but there is an entire team representing Taylor that is responsible for this. They need to allow an organic release in which the music speaks for itself.

Her team is preying on vulnerable fans who cannot afford throwing this much money at a billionaire. So I say to her fans, please, stop buying her variants. As a dedicated fan, it’s natural to want to give them all of your support, but you have to think about how this sales technique is actually damaging her career and reputation. These album stats were not earned fairly.
