Homestead challenge day 3: teas and composting

Today’s homesteading, I made a bulk pitcher of iced tea, blends of dried herbal tea, and started up composting again.

I have a LOMI electric composter, which is perfect for apartment living. I’ve used it before but I stopped using it for a while. So now, I’m just starting it up again. It’s a great way to make use of your food scraps and limit trash waste.

I also made a pitcher of iced tea. I bought this pitcher online which ended up being way bigger than I realized. I wish I’d gotten a smaller one. I probably should’ve returned it but decided to just make use of it instead.

I used 14 black tea bags and steeped them in water. It’s currently steeping in the fridge and should be ready by tomorrow. In the future, I would’ve bought a smaller pitcher, and I would use loose black tea instead of tea bags.

And then, I made three jars of dried herbal teas — nettle mint, happy tummy, and headache ease. This is super easy. I got the recipes from Herbal Academy.

You just take some herbs, these all required 2-3 different herbs, and mix them together at directed amounts. When it’s time for tea, you can boil water and steep 1 tbs and strain before drinking. I love to add honey as well.

These were all very simple tasks, but they go a long way!
