Pisces Season (Feb 19 – Mar 21)

Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac wheel, before a new cycle begins with Aries. Pisceans are old and wise. They don’t mind being last because they have a lot of patience. In fact, they prefer being last, observing everyone else move from afar, so that they know what to do when it’s their turn to shine.

As the last sign, they are the twelfth of the zodiac. In numerology, the number “12” reduces to “3.” The number 3 is associated with creativity, playfulness, and communication. It is the medium between the spiritual and the physical.

Pisces is connected to the 12th house. This house represents solitude, peace, introspection, wisdom, and secrecy. Pisceans are old souls despite their actual age. They value their sense of privacy and prefer to spend time alone in silence, rather than go out with a noisy crowd. The 12th house is very heavy, which demonstrates how strongly and deeply Pisceans feel. But it is also the hidden house, which means that while there is a lot happening in the mind and the emotions of a Pisces, they rarely reveal it. They are often very quiet people, but don’t be fooled by their stillness, as there is a lot of restlessness going on deep inside of them. Another aspect is that Pisceans are not fighters; they value peace and agreeability. With the 12th house resembling endings, Pisceans are skilled at letting go of bad blood and resentment — they prefer to turn the page, as they can truly appreciate the lessons they learn from conflict. And lastly, the 12th house is the most spiritual house of all, making Pisceans very mystical souls.

Pisces is symbolized by the fish. More specifically, they are the image of two fishes swimming in opposite directions. It is said that the two fishes represent two sides of them: the part of them that urges to resist the tide, and the other that agrees to go with the flow. Pisceans are generally very easygoing, but they also have a tendency to push back against reality. While they deeply understand the spiritual importance of surrendering to the universe, there is still a steady part of them that wants to try a new direction in life that may not be necessarily meant for them. It is also worth mentioning that the “Jesus fish” is connected to Pisces, possibly resembling the Age of Pisces.

Pisces is ruled by Jupiter — along with Sagittarius. Jupiter is the planet of expansion, abundance, and blessings. Pisceans certainly have an insatiable taste, a feeling that nothing in life can satisfy them, because they always want more. They are also very lucky signs, as fortune seems to follow them wherever they go — thanks to Jupiter! Jupiter is also the wisest and most spiritual planet. Pisceans can make excellent teachers or sages, because they have so much mature guidance to share with others. However, their conflicting need to remain in the background can hold them back from pursuing a leadership role — once again pointing to the symbolizing of the two fish swimming in opposite directions.

Pisces is a water sign, along with Cancer and Scorpio. Water signs are known for being emotional, deep, and intuitive. They are dissociated from the material world, and instead highly invested in their own, inner world of imagination and feelings. Water signs thoroughly understand that there is more to life than what meets the eye. On the downside, water signs are highly fluid which means they take on the form of their environment — making Pisceans extra prone to manipulation and being taken advantage of by others. Think of water being poured into a cup, as water takes on the form of the cup. Yet on the plus side, water is also extremely persistent — take a look at rivers, ocean waves, and tap running from the sink — once a flow is formed, they are impossible to stop.

And finally, Pisces is also a mutable sign, like Gemini, Virgo, and Sagittarius. Mutable signs may struggle to initiate projects and plans, and they may struggle to follow through, but they are skilled at putting in those final touches and wrapping things up. Pisceans will always finish what they started — although the hardest part for them is actually starting and getting into the flow. Pisceans are happy to go along with others in order to keep the peace.

Fun fact: In Latin, “Pisces” directly translates to “fish” — but it is pronounced like “pis-kees” instead of “pi-sees.”

  1. Is it really Pisces the last sign of the zodiac wheel? I’ve been reading that some people believe that it is Aries who is the last sign, but I don’t see that at all. It seems like Pisces should be closer to the wheel than Aries!

    1. Yes, Pisces is the 12th zodiac sign, that comes right before Aries which starts a new zodiac cycle. Technically there is no end or beginning in astrology, it is a never-ending wheel that goes around and around, but Aries marks a new chapter.
